I assume a small yawl is no worse to sail than a boat with mainsail and jib, as the mizzen (little sail at the back) is sheeted to a bumpkin (a bowsprit at the back) and does not need adjusting when you tack or gybe.

Having said that, when setting off or landing, you'd have to drop three sails, so life might get tricky. Unless you stow two of them whilst offshore, and come in to land with just one pulling?

The incident in question (bootlaces for a repair) was when Ransome was 20+ though, not a child?
