Certainly they take longer and there is less to see but I was wondering about their use in stories. Certainly Rider Haggard had a useful lunar eclipse in King Solomon's Mines which intimidated the locals despite the witch smeller telling everyone not to worry, she had seen all this before and it was harmless.
Can't think of any situations when an eclipse, unlike the astronomer, would have been useful, unless Nancy decided to set up an Eclipse expedition like Captain Cook's.
