I have just received this information on the new Swallows & Amazons film from my source at the production company:
"You may be aware that we have a new Director on board, Philippa Lowthorpe and are casting for the lead adults (Captain Flint etc).
Shaheen Baig is our Casting Director, and she will cast all the children.
We hope to go into pre-production next spring, but as always, it will depend on pulling all the financials together which we are doing now.
We are thrilled that the BFI are supporting the film and our new Director.
The previous script was abandoned because a new Director came on board and she wanted to put her own stamp on it. We have actually gone back to an earlier pre-Director version which Philippa and Andrea (writer) have worked hard on to improve, emphasising the children and their adventure. It’s a wonderful read and closer to the original book.
Sophie Neville is a great supporter of this new script and The Arthur Ransome Trust always read the scripts and give feedback/approval. The Producer Nick Barton is a massive Arthur Ransome fan, and the whole reason this project has come about, is because of his love of the books and how they inspired him to learn to sail."
This sounds more promising, especially as it seems the project is moving forward again.
