Tarboard has gone too quiet. I must think of something to say....

Do you recall the race Roger and Bridget have, eating porridge in Alma Cottage? This was an example of true childish behaviour, very different to the 'playing' the Swallows do at any other time (pretending to be explorers) or the more grown-up sport (sailing) they enjoy.

Can you think of any other times when children in the stories play in a childish way? Obviously there is Bridget's behaviour in Secret Water, and she's younger than the others...but what else did the others do that doesn't come under the banner of "going outdoors and pretending to be explorers/pirates"?

I can only think of Roger "practicing diving" by picking up his collar stud in his teeth, underwater in the sink.
