Having read all the comments on this thread, which as often happens on TarBoard has departed most interestingly from the original post, I have a couple of possible examples.
- Does John's "Race you to the top," (The Decoys GN) count as childish behaviour? It is a small example of the competitiveness between the two captains.
- John's thoughts, though not voiced, about the quality of the Mastodon's carpentry on Speedy.
These are books about the interesting things the characters do. The readers want events that are out of the ordinary. In any work of fiction the mundane and familiar are omitted unless they contibute something to the story. Robin, the Coots' watcher at Acle bridge, spending the telephone money on bananas and making himself sick is an example of such a plot device.
Maybe one of the younger Swallows rebelling against the elders would introduce a nice episode of tension in one of the stories.
