I have always thought that Nancy's finest hour came in the lock-up, when in a life and death situation, all the others have given up hope. There is nothing they can do to save the birds.
'Yes there is,' she says. 'And we'll do it.' And she leads and encourages the rest.
Mike: I believe that most rewarding experience of 'entering' the books for landlubbers, is to park just south of The Wade a little after high water, stroll around the sea wall to Witch's Quay and soak up the peace. After a while continue along the wall/through fields until you are opposite Mastodon Island. Lunch by the shore. Retrace steps to arrive at The Wade approaching low water and to splash along it until about half-way across. Return to the car and the rest of the world!
I did it once. Never forgotten!
