Dave Thewlis asked if 'rum' is still used in the UK (not the drink!) I think it probably is with older people and in certain parts of the country - a rum do - for example.
I have an aunt who is 91 who still uses 'queer' to mean unusual, even though she regularly reads a serious newspaper and watches topical television programmes and so is well aware of the modern usage. The other usage has gone in out of fashion in her lifetime!
