The early books are truly appalling, read with the eyes of the 21st century. But I did feel when I read the extract from The Elixir of Life in Amazon Publications' Before a Peak in Darien that there was a glimmering of the true AR style starting to appear. Not that I have any wish to revisit the whole book.
