Arthur Ransome enthusiasts remember Pamela Coleman Smith as the person who taught AR the Anansi stories as recounted in Bohemia in London.

I remember that particular passage and thinking that it was not totally unlike events there (Kings Road/Fulham Road) in the '60s, when I lived in Britannia Road as the lodger of the head of 'Quorum', a fashion boutique. Alice Pollock; not a designer of tarot cards, but of floaty dresses. Daft as a brush, wonderfully talented and extraordinarily beautiful. People you met might believe in anything or nothing at all.
Not much seemed to have changed since AR's day.
