But so many books, and films, are based on coincidences. I’ve just watched “Warhorse” and the plot at the end is a series of coincidences.
I also am with AR on his use of “hard”. He uses many terms in his books that are either local to a particular area, such as “beck” and “staithe”, or are specialist sailing terms. Some are explained but others are left to the reader to find out for themselves. When I started reading the S&A books they were not just good stories, they were a learning experience. (yuk, I’m starting to sound like a teacher!)
