My son and I took a trip to the American Museum of Natural History in New York yesterday and were delighted to stumble across a side gallery containing artifacts from several of Amundsen's expeditions to the North and South Poles. The items included two fabulous (and large) wooden sleds, lashed together with what looked like sinew, along with navigational equipment, tools and various other pieces of gear. We were particularly excited to find reference to the Fram, although that specific item (a compass I think) had been temporarily removed. It was a little like coming across the Holy Grail - imagine what Dick would have thought? I think my son is going to spend his Christmas holiday lashing a sled together.
