In the link below, are some nice photos of frozen lakes in the Canadian Rockies with frozen methane bubbles in the ice. The Vermilion Lakes freeze over most winters (except for the one with hot springs). Lake Minnewanka, the largest of the lakes in the photos, is 17 miles long. It is a bit bigger than Windermere and the mountains are a bit higher too.
