AR was in China during the Chinese New Year celebrations in February 1927. He saw a dragon procession in Hankow and described it as part of his regular articles cabled back to the Manchester Guardian. The description is too long to quote here, but he describes the dragon "borne aloft on poles by 20 or 30 men at regular intervals along its snake-like length". The rest is very much like the dragon described in Missee Lee. AR also says that he had recently seen "a score of such processions".

(Info from "Ransome in China 1927" by David Jones, Amazon Publications (TARS) 2006, a book I cannot recommend too highly.)
