Being a mere whippersnapper (born in 1975) all the talk of shillings and tanners confuses me sometimes in the books. Yet I've never needed a conversion chart, as the dialogue always tells me whether the amount in question is large or small.
However, I would like someone to help me please, with a related question on the pre-decimal system:
If something cost 50 guineas in 1928, can you make a reasonable guess at what it might have cost in 1949?
And then can you find a comparable household item?
(E.G. it might have risen to 60 guineas, roughly the price of a new bicycle.)
Thank you!
