Thank you to Peter for pointing out the possible conusion with the TARS acronym.
Personally - this file predates the TARS organisation and stands for The Arthur Ransome Slide pictures and started with slides taken in the 1960's. There is another file called TARN pictures standing for The Arthur Ransome Negative pictures.
With modern image converion, I just pop 5 slides or negatives into my scanner and the output goes either to the TARS or TARN flies. I useally file digital captures, as with Lakeland Cam on the TARS file as I feel that the images are closer in line with Slide pictures.
