Tarboarders with access to BritishTV may have watched a short detective series last winter, taken from books by James Runcie set in Grantchester. Cambridge University looms, but only in the background.

I think I saw one episode of that.

Trying to think of other TV series set in Cambridge (other than Porterhouse Blue, the excellent adaptation of the previously-mentioned book) the only one that crossed my mind is really old - The Fellows, made in black and white by Granada TV and shown as long ago as 1967 - a few months before I became a student at Cambridge myself.

It was quite offbeat and featured one of my favourite actors, the late Richard Vernon (who later played Slartibartfast in The Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy). He and his colleage (criminologists who had appeared in an earlier, London-set series The Man in Room 13) held a temporary fellowship at the fictional All Saints College.

A couple of years ago I discovered that it had come out on DVD and bought a copy, partly because I rememberd fancying their assistant, Mrs Hollinczech (a surname that I suspect does not occur in real life) played by Jill Booty.

Sorry to post such a ramble - not my usual style of post.
