My brother built a 35 footer twenty five years ago and assisted in building another bigger one. If you are serious, I could ask him if he would be willing to answer your queries?
Only a crewing sailor myself, it seemed heavy in the water and poor in light winds but under (powerful) engine would go through any weather. Also good a boucing off rocks. But there may be better modern designs - I wouldn't know.
Spent my honeymoon on it, as it happens (without brother, glad to say).
As to the construction, it seemed to me to be a lot of work - I only assisted slightly with the hull and still have the scars to prove it. The interior needs, I would think, good amateur joinering skills - everything curves of course!
