Thanks to Paul for the link to the Daily Telegraph story of, amongst other things, the character name change for the proposed BBC S&A film. (I thought because of this the topic was worthy of a new thread.)
To me the name change from Titty to Tatty is just plain daft, they (the BBC) made the same mistake in the 1960s TV version for the same reasons, and I remember only too well how confused I was about it (I was 10 and didn't make the connection, perhaps I was too innocent or naive!)
As for who will play the role – it’s to be the sister of singer Lily Allen; this must be a disappointment for all those stage-struck mothers of little girls.
Worse still is we are told that the 'action' of the film is to be moved closer to the Second World War, the head of BBC films, Christine Langan, says
'...so that it can be told in a compelling and energetic way.'
whatever that means!
According to the report, so who knows if that is the case, Sophie Neville, president of TARS, approves of the changes.
Given the history of this proposed film, with all its ups and downs, it seems to me that things do not bode well.
