The English Professor made a comment the other day about men and language. I said in response words to the effect that when one is in a 60 knot blow in a 60 foot yacht in 60 foot waves off the New South Wales coast in the dark and you wish to establish positive communication with the fore-deck, one may use any word that is in the OED.
I was thinking of a variant on the 5th word on page 814 of the Shorter OED on historical principles that my grandmother gave me on my 21st birthday. But of course as a gentleman Tarboarder one would not use that word to an English Professor, unless you were sailing etc...
The English Professor also made some comment about not being immortalized on this august board, to late I said. I forget the comment on the people on the board - but I thought it was interesting at the time - apparently we appear a little strange to an English Professor.
