Given the vastly different nature of film and book, I think that if they keep the same title, you are doing well. Compare the average Bond film with Ian Fleming's original book of the same title. Now they are even inventing Bond titles and stories of their own.
I am sure that copyright holders cannot prevent film makers from making pretty well any change they think necessary. Film adaptions of books often reinforce minor characters and sometimes omit major ones. A book has to be pared down into a form that would only fill a few chapters of the original.
