Tarboarders who read 'The Times' newspaper (UK) will know that there has been a running correspondence on the 'Titty' topic. This has followed similar lines to the Tarboard discussion, except about a week behind. For example, today someone has suggested using 'Mavis'.
I don't agree with this. 'Mavis' seems stiff and formal. Ransome knew that in a family with four children, at least one of them is bound to be known by a nick-name. John is too 'senior', Susan - well, I don't think anyone would dare use a nick-name for her, so it has to be 'Titty'. And remember that Roger is occasionally called 'Rogie'.
