I came across this expression on the LAKELAND CAM and it makes no sense at all - is there an idiom there I am missing - like the French saying - a deluxe chicken that means a lot more than Poule.

I'm not sure what you intend. Where on the Lakeland Cam? I can't find any odd expressions today or on the week's pictures.

There are, of course, deluxe chickens in France- the "Poulet de Bresse" which come from the Bresse region and are protected by trade mark. They are stunningly expensive and worth every penny. When you see one (they are sold locally complete with head and feet) you realise that birds really are the immediate descendants of the dinosaurs. They taste totally differently from "ordinary" chickens. A genuine experience.
