I am justly rebuked, Peter. Nevertheless, I thought it might be of interest if it could be established how Cape viewed the name, given that its meaning is traced back to the 18th century by the OED and it must have been in common usage when it featured in the song set to Sousa's music (see my other post on the subject). Whatever, the BBC has made a hash of the issue.
