About 25 years ago I was watching the classic 1955 British war movie, The Dam Busters, on TV in the USA when I noticed little glitches in the sound track. I finally realized what was happening.
In real life in 1943, and in the original 1955 movie, Squadron Leader Guy Gibson owned a black Labrador which he had named, quite innocently, according to its color. Since the dog died just before the squadron took off on their bombing raid, Gibson decided to use its name as the code-word to signal a successful attack.
Apparently this name had to be censored before the movie could be shown in America somewhere around 1990.
