We (Ransome fans of long standing) are definitely NOT the target audience. It's going to be aimed at kids today, most of whom won't know the tale, and it has to make a profit otherwsie they won't make it. So it has to appeal to modern audiences and be comparable to modern films.
Also note that the book as been turned into a film (or TV) twice over, at least one of which stayed pretty close to the plot. So the likelihood of a third film following our beloved book exactly is nil. We should have known from the start, back in 2010, that it would have the plot tweaked to a large degree.
I am undecided about going to watch it. I held back over the S&A musical and don't feel I missed out. I just want to re-read the book, that's all!
But I welcome a film that brings awareness of the books to the masses in 2016, when less people know about the stories.
