One view of this is that as some of the funding for the film was given by Screen Yorkshire, some of the film had to be made in Yorkshire. The shopping trip in Rio gives perhaps the only possibility for this, and I suspect the carnival has been introduced to pad this out or big it up.
I wonder, looking at the costumes of the carnival, if it is more a link to the Good Queen Bess phrase in the book. It reminds me of the scene in Mapp and Lucia (original version)!
But where in Calderdale? Hebden Bridge? Anyone recognise the townscape?
