There was also a Hornblower film made in the last 10 years. The plot was tweaked a fair bit, but I was able to enjoy seeing the ships and 'reliving' my enjoyment of reading the books.
I think if a film drives a new person to try the book, that's a win.
If a book is made into a film, then the above will definitely happen, regardless of plot changes.
So we need to be happy overall about the new S&A film, even if our own eyeballs loathe it. More people are going to try the books, and we can be pleased about that!
By the way, prepare yourselves for new books appearing in the shops; old S&A text with new film photos on the cover. It is a necessary evil required to achieve the goal mentioned above. Go with it.
