Adam, regarding the long awaited Lake district Clubhouse; A Property Sub-Committee was set-up in April 1996. Much correspondence took place and on July 21st 1996 this Sub-Committee held its first and last Meeting at which it was agreed that the Membership would not be able to stomach the possible need to change the Society's status to a charity which might be necessary for the acquisition of property as well as the proposed incorporation. You may remember that charitable status was frowned upon early in TARS' life. The Property Sub-Committee, of which I was a Member, advised that any thoughts of charitable status and property acquisition should be put on hold until after incorporation, and judging by the problems that has caused I think they were right. This Committee has never been officialy wound-up so it's probably still sitting somewhere waiting to be re-activated!
