About 20 years ago I read "Death Under Sail", a detective story written
c. 1932 by C.P. Snow (= Lord Snow, one-time scientist, civil servant and
government minister, best known for inventing the concept of the
Two Cultures, and as a novelist best known for his
autobiographically-influenced series "Strangers and Brothers").
The solving of the murder turns on the observation that an adult male
from a working-class background, who as a child attended a day school,
is likely to be more modest about being seen naked than another adult
male from a higher social stratum who attended a boarding school.
