Pauline Marshall will now be broadcast in the programme that
starts at 6:30 pm on Monday August 21st. It will be on BBC1
and the programme is called "North West Tonight". If you live in
the South East, then tough. She was postponed owing to the
death of someone associated with football to whom they wanted
to give coverage.

Just to remind everyone, Pauline will be talking about the origin
of Ransome's boats, proposing that the 'Beetle' was a model for
the Amazon. Roger Wardale has sait that the 'Beetle' was "in the
wrong place at the wrong time", but Pauline was actually around
Coniston at the time the books were being written, an advantage
shared by few others.

Obviously the boats, like the places and the characters are to an
extent, composites. However, there is I am told a striking
similarity between a sketch by Ransome of 'The Amazon' and the
actual layout of the now defunct 'Beetle', a layout which the 'Mavis'
does not apparently share. I await this broadcast with interest
and have asked my relations in Arneside to tape it for me if they
are able.

Pauline has said that she does not mind her address being given to people who want to write to her. For consistency she has suggested that this should be done via Ted Alexander as he sells her book "Where It All Began" (£5). I'm sure Ted won't mind.

Cheers,

Andy Morley
