It seems that so many activities in our "popular culture" are hyped in similar manners as Mr. Flint discribed. Mr. Ransome's great stories should be able to stand on their own, with-out these distractions. I think activly taking kids out sailing, maybe a tour of a sailing museum, films on sailing and introducing the books as adjuncts to these activities; or, letting them "discover" the books on their own (put them out prominatly, where they can't miss them, this is how I discovered AR). Then, maybe after the books have been read, have a school carnival related to the stories. I know that in a school situation, the options can be limited. This is my first time contributing to TarBoard -hope I did it right! I just sent in my dues last week! EA
