What a marvellous invention the Internet is! I am 63 and I still remember when I first got hold of a Swedish translation of " We didīnt want to go to sea". The year was, I think 1950 or so. I tried to find more stuff from Arthur Ransome and found a couple more translations. I think I read the books about ten times each! I read them to my kids much later and especially my oldest daughter also got great pleasure out of them. On a visit to London we found the whole collection in pocket book format and of course bought them all. But our finest experience was when we visited Lake Coniston ( first a little disappointed by the fact that Mr Ransome seemed to have mixed his lake out of Lake Conniston and Lake Windemere ) and we climed The Old Man beleive me or not, a fog came we lost track at the summit ( but found the mound of stones and put a Swedish Crown in it )but behind it two Englishmen sat looking gloomingly into the grey and having a nice picnic and they were kind enough to help us find the way down again. We saw the "Wild Cat Island" too. Though I was of mature age at that time I enjoyed it fully. A.R. was, and still is not, very much read over here.
