I have to take the opposite view on Ronald Fraser's performance as Capn Flint - he played him as too much of a 'silly ass' - an unforgiveable portrayal in my opinion.
The somewhat contrived coincidence is that we have had this 'Fraser as Capn Flint' discussion before on Tarboard. Last time someone said I was talking 'tosh'. Now 'tosh' there meant 'rubbish' but I also remember years ago 'tosh' being used as a cockney word for 'mate', as in 'Wotcher tosh!' With reference to the 'Ahoy' thread above, could this 'tosh' be derived from the Hungarian 'tarsh'?
