The account of life in the early 20c by Jack Hampshire (ref posting 7967)says that 'Carrs Bros.' the firm where he served his enginering apprenticeship, was selling two Fords a week delivered from the 'Ford works at Manchester.' His father also bought a new Model T which was delivered 'direct from Manchester' in 1914. The photo in a companion book of this car does look 'rattletrappy' It is a 4-door open top tourer with mudguards, spoked wheels, carbide lamps, spare wheel hanging on the side. Apparantly if he was driving in the direction of the village school of a morning, he would pick up all the children, mooching along, 'cram them in the back' and drop them at the school door.... Innocent days.
