I had the same thought as Peter - that calling out "Titty" on a crowded platform might have caused red faces and sniggers even in those days. I can't really believe that this would have been a factor for AR as if it was he wouldn't have used Mavis Altounyan's nickname in the first place - or would have altered it to "Kitty" as was done for Susan George's character in the TV version of S&A. Of course, the porter might have seen a label addressed to Mr. Roger Walker and Miss Titty Walker and chosen to call out the less embarrassing name.........
Did the Altounyan family ever discuss this aspect of Titty's name with any of the AR chroniclers ?
