Yes, I am interested in the “orders of magnitude” of the size of the books. AR must have got into his stride after SA with SD, seeing it is the longest of the books. But even in the shortest book (PM), a lot seems to happen and what Hugh Brogan refers to as the D’s “bosky” life in the Dog’s Home in the woods is quite appealing!

But they all seem quite massive compared with the current childrens & teenagers books. Don’t today’s children have enough time for longer books, or can’t they last for several sessions with a book? Some adult novels are in the doorstop size though, eg Jean Aeul’s “Clan of the Cave Bear” seris and Diane Garabaldon’s Scottish Highlands seris

I thought that the word count would be avaliable instantly, without realising the problems with English rather than American spellings and the tendency of MS Word to “take over” and correct spellings, format dates, format letters etc. An advantage of MS Works, the stripped-down home version of the MS program is that it is passive! And my version (in New Zealand) has Australian spellings!
