You never know - AR might have had an influence. As a young boy, I was given one of those '100 things for boys to do' type books. It featured headings like 'Stamp Collecting', 'Kite Making' etc. There was a heading 'Bird's Egg Collecting' and underneath it just said 'DON'T!' The date would be about 1950, with all AR's books in print and popular.
