Not all the old hulls at Pin Mill die - a surprising number of pre-war big yachts have been recovered and are now restored and doing charter work. Or the 1916 steam Harbour Service Launch 'Puffin' now has a new boiler and went to the west country.

Pin Mill is perfectly recognisable as the place Ransome described - almost all the modernity is safely over the top of the hill.
