I suppose it would have been rather fairer if I had reproduced TA's letter to me on this forum before posting my reply - but I would have needed to clear that with him first, etc.
For those that don't know what I was rattling on about in the first place (!) TA has a good article in MM dismissing the Ransome-was-a-spy articles that came out a few months ago.
I agreed with the bulk of the article and found it much more convincing than the spy allegations, but had problems with one or two remarks in the article which I raised here.
I have read TA's letter to me again now and have decided it was probably entirely friendly which just goes to show the difficulties incumbant in trying to read tone, mood or intent into the silence behind the written word! One's conclusions almost always have more to do with your own mood than that of the writer!
Anyway, it's been a fun exchange but it could go on forever!
