I don't think that Susan would approve of John running (rowing) around unclothed. It certainly didn't occur to her that John would loosen tent ropes without pajamas, so I doubt that "naked savage" was a normal state of affairs. It never occurred to me that John didn't simply put clothes on top of his bathing trunks in order to be decent for collecting the milk. Of course bathing suit under clothes was normal for us. Waiting long enough to avoid wet patches through the clothes didn't always work out, but John shouldn't have been dripping too badly after his row across the lake.
