Our "Piglet" is another Swallow-type, but a bit bigger, 16ft x 6ft, built as a clinker pulling boat (RNLI boarding boat, to get the lifeboat crew to the lifeboat at Lowestoft) but we added a little 8hp diesel engine and a standing gaff rig. She has a shallow keel, like Swallow, and does not sail very well (I usually describe her as sailing very well indeed, for a motor boat!) She potters up and down the River Deben, can sail, motor, row (but not scull, because the mainsheet horse gets in the way) and be used as a fishing platform, act as tender to the big boat, go camping with the cover over the boom and has carried six children at a time.

She is slow to tack, and she does make quite a lot of leeway, but you can get her to windward.
