It is certainly a mast structure, although I would doubt that it would be used to haul nets; it's too far forward for that. There appears to be a white "patch" about halfway up which looks to me like a radar scanner. Given the potential for getting caught out in filthy weather or fog, and wanting desperately to get back into port, it is what I would expect to see.
