Re hats, how about the Amazons’ red knitted caps in SD (etc). Titty & Roger see Nancy & Peggy approaching over the moor because of their red caps, and say “why don’t they take them off”. They warn John & Susan and then the Swallows hide in the cave.
If my memory serves me correctly Roger or Titty commented in Pigeon Post about the Blackets wearing their red caps when they were cutting out Squashy Hat on the fells when he was near their mine. But I could be wrong again.
And a thanks to Ed Kiser who has helped a lot with the research into Swallow. I am geting closer to having some neat drawings. AR was pretty consistent with his dimensions on the sketches, just sometimes the pespective is not quite right.
By the way I reckon Captn Flint was about 5 foot 9 to 10 inches.
