Despite the fact that there aren't any D's, D&G's, Coots, Ducks or other birds or even Eels, I like Swallowdale best of the series. Perhaps it is because it was the only one my family owned so I read it more than the others. It has the fells, sailing and shipwreck, Lakeland life from hound trails to wrestling. Excitement in restricted visibility, (incidentally that is quite a Ransome feature, perhaps it reflects on his own short sightedness?) and the most perfect campsite which I haven't bothered tramping in the rain to look for. Though I did go up Beacon Hill once in a downpour!

I do like all the others too, but SD has the spot closest to my heart.

(See you on Friday, Harry!)
