Friends in England have just sent me a copy of The Cumberland News for October 31 with an article headed "I'll never forget Arthur Ransome's gift to me -- a trout". It is based on an interview with a woman who met AR in 1944 (when she was 12) at the Scale Hill Hotel in Lorton Vale (one never thinks of AR in the northern Lakes). It has some interesting reminisces (not least to me, as I worked for a month at that hotel when a student until irreconcilable differences between the proprietor and myself led to a parting of the ways) and I would be happy to send a copy to anyone who cannot otherwise get hold of it (it may have appeared all over the UK for all I know).
