I have never understood why "guddle" has come to mean a mess, it's actually a rather fiddly business involving stroking the the fish ( trout usually ) under the chin until it's sorta hypnotised, then scooping it out of the water. Defininitk...nit.. ( how do you spell definitively ? ) not a mess, muddle or confishion.
