The station at Rugby undoubtedly existed then. I imagine the train
with the through carriage to Windermere/Rio would have stopped there
but don't really know. If it didn't, it's conceivably that a person
joining at Rugby might have had to travel to Crewe in a slower train
ahead of the express, connecting into the express at Crewe. But like
the person who posted earlier in this thread, I've always imagined on
the basis of this passage that Dick was at Shrewsbury ... a school
currently most famous, I think, for producing satirists, not scientists.
