Adam,

One would have to say that mothers never lie and so your mother is unlikely to have committed such a sin. I have know many girls who have had 8 - 29th birthdays, there is one here at the moment. As far as I can see number theory accounts for that as long as you keep track of the number as it has past. Much like NW 1/4 W etc. The NW has past but the west is not here yet. If the compas swings a few times at NW who are we as mere males to complain.

It must have been hard to find a man after the war.

A friend of mine, we did a lot of work together, had a father in the WW2 - worked as an accountant for a bomber squadron - went on at least one mission to bomb enemy parts. Told his son he could not face sitting in the mess each day and looking at the empty places and feeling guilty at not having to fly. He did not tell his wife till he was back safely.

How did AR miss war service?

My Uncle crashed in a bomber, my grandfather some how missed WW1, always wondered how he did? He died when I was to young to realize.

My ex wife's father died from TB about 20 years after the war, that is one alternaitve, we forget how bad TB was in those days - much like SARS could become if we are not careful. Nancy's face is a bit like the pictures of the people quarantineed in China.
