Dear Professor Nichols,
I have consulted someone who was in the school in the 1930's whose memory is
good. He tells me that the custom was then to leave by the earliest
practicable train . This remained the custom till the 1950's at least. I must
point out that the OTC contingent wld have marched to the station to entrain
for annual camp on the last morning of the summer term. Quite how many boys
this wld involve and of what age groups ?? I will need to ask survivors.
If you were walking from the school and needed to buy a ticket you might need
30mins. Taxis were available and in '33 there was still the odd horse cab on
the rank. These would be ordered in advance.
To my knowledge there was an 0840 to Crewe at that time. I was a small brat
in the mid 30's and my father often used it. \otherwise I will need to lay
hands on a 1930's local ABC or Bradshaw.
Hope this helps.
James Lawson,

So how long is the train journey to Crewe and would that fit the times?
