Read my first AR (Secret Water) as a prize in a summer library program in about 1953. Was intrigued by children my own age free to explore and spend a holiday doing things we in the landlocked Midwest would never do--not to mention doing it in far-away England. Just had to get the other books, which I eventually succeeded in doing--all in hardback, many by Cape, others by Lippincott (USA).
